We make things public, present new artistic creations, develop intelligent ideas, explore the latest technologies, share them with others, connect virtual networks to physical spaces, thus building new communities and serving the needs of different people and places.
We are specialized in conceiving, coordinating, co-creating and communicating:
° cultural events (exhibitions, talkshows, seminars, workshops, concerts, discussions)
° interdisciplinary projects (visual arts, design, media, architecture, music, gaming)
° urban interventions (location-based programming, mapping, building local networks)
° temporary space usage (collaborative redevelopment, revitalizing buildings)
° new media strategies (social networking, communities, intelligent gaming)
° networking activities (knowledge sharing, co-creation, event planning)
° clever PR campaigns (media partners, website concepts, interactivity)
And yes, we are also able to attract funding and audiences for our wild and wonderful ideas.
Here are some examples of recent projects:
Time Out magazine contribution – crowdsourced vision
With contributions from 36 of our dearest friends and heroes, including Ben Cerveny, Nalden, Hans-Ulrich Obrist, Saskia Sassen and Winy Maas, our co-created vison of Amsterdam in 2020 appeared in the new year’s edition of Time Out magazine Amsterdam. Read more and download it here.
Open Duivenvoorde - activities for museum castle
This spring and summer we will be organizing several projects at Duivenvoorde Castle, a stately museum-mansion and unique parkland (see below) near the city of The Hague. We received a request from the organization to make a contribution to their yearlong celebration of the museum’s 50th anniversary in 2010. Read more
Qi of China - social media strategy for online game
In the past few months we have been working with the Tropenmuseum Junior (TMJ) in Amsterdam to devise a social strategy for their upcoming exhibition ‘Qi of China‘ (the website is unfortunately in Dutch only). The exhibition is aimed at children in the age of 6-13, and tells the story of China and Chinese culture through active participation. A novel part of the exhibition is the existence of an online game, developed by Amsterdam based cross-media production company Submarine. Read more
De Verdieping – programming of project space
De Verdieping is a transient exhibition space in the basement of the Trouw building, the former printing facility of four of the countries biggest newspapers and temporarily occupied by the most Berlin-like restaurant and club in town called TrouwAmsterdam. Non-fiction is responsible for the artistic direction and strategic development of the open source project space. Read more
Collection of Crowds - interactive media project
What started as a radical entry for the so-called Fifth Curator Competition, an international competition for young curators, has evolved into a long term research project and series of experiments focussing on increased accessibility and audience interaction for cultural institutions through a combination of phenomena from the world of (online) media: data visualization, user generated content and augmented reality. Our friends at VURB and The Roomware Project will be joining us in our attempt to revolutionize the way we experience art and heritage. Read more
Aura – international contemporary art project
‘Aura’ was a multidiscplinary exhibition and a series of events organised by Non-fiction at Castrum Peregrini, a former hiding place turned into intellectual playground, located on a lush canal in the heart of Amsterdam. Artists we invited for this were Jan Robert Leegte, Alexandra Leykauf, Amie Dicke, Susanne Kriemann, John Kleckner, Renée van Marissing, Chris Kabel, Erik Lindner, Henk van der Waal, Pierre Bastien and Machinefabriek and additional contributions by (a.o.) Tracy Metz, Macha Roesink and Theu Boermans. We also included original works from the collection by (a.o.) Max Beckmann, Jan Toorop and Walter Benjamin. Read more

In the past four years, we have been organising experimental music events at Lantaren/Venster, Bimhuis, Melkweg, Oude Kerk, Stedelijk Museum, Energetica, Artis Planetarium, 11, De Verdieping and TrouwAmsterdam. These events have been investigations into rhythmculture, bass experimentation and computer improvisation, drawing maps of contemporary practices from experimental dance music to sonic arts to augmented improvisation. Open Museum - international symposium at PICNIC
The symposium on museums, media and innovation ‘Open Museum‘ took place at PICNIC ‘08 in Amsterdam in September 2008. This was a one-day marathon focussing on the idea of an ‘open museum’, a public institution that engages with its environment. Inspired by the great Stedelijk director Willem Sandberg, the Open Museum symposium looked at how museums in the 21st century can learn from media, and how media can learn from museums.
