Three years on, the great 11/11/11 anniversary party

There are many reasons why to throw a party on the 11th of November: the opening of carnival (in some parts of the Netherlands and Germany), Women’s Day (in Belgium), Single’s Day (in China) and, of course, all around the world many people commemorate the end of World War I.

Opening up the Rijksakademie: bloggers wanted

For a while now I’ve been involved with the Rijksakademie voor beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam, an artists’ institute for national and international top talent. The name Rijksakademie (1870) refers to the classical Akademia, a place where philosophers, academics and artists meet to test and exchange ideas and knowledge. These days the Rijksakademie offers a residency to more than 50 artists from all over the world.

Dorian Concept, Knalpot, Harmonic 313, the Bug…

Gerri and Raphael are Knalpot

Gerri and Raphael are Knalpot

A quick message about our plans for tonight, and while I am at it for tomorrow too. A first ever Rednose Distrikt night at the Bimhuis with our friends Aardvarck and Steven de Peven. These Hunter Thompson DJs will be joined by mini-Korg sensation Dorian Concept and low-powered motorized noise band Knalpot.

The night starts at 11 pm, and tickets are a mere 10 euros. Feed your hype at nalden.net and see you tonight.

Tomorrow, Saturday 28 February, Warp Records multimoniker Mark Pritchard will release his Harmonic 313 debut album at OT313. The Australian must battle with the darkest force any soundsystem has ever encounterd, Mr. Kevin ‘Bug‘ Martin. This means sonic warfare. In the evening there’s a little instore drink-and-headbut at Rush Hour, with live radio by Future Vintage.

If you don’t make it to the Bimhuis, keep in mind that Trouw will officially open tonight.

About Non-fiction

Wouter van Veldhoven and Machinefabriek performing live on the occasion of the Night of Duivenvoorde Castle, organized by Michiel van Iersel and Juha van ‘t Zelfde.-

Non-fiction is an Amsterdam based and internationally operating innovation agency working at the intersection of the arts, heritage, media and architecture. It was founded by Michiel van Iersel and Juha van ‘t Zelfde in 2008.

We work for and with a growing number of public institutions, museums, universities, design agencies, cities, real estate developers, artists, architects and musicians. Amongst them are the Stedelijk Museum, BimhuisMuziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, Ives Ensemble, Stadsherstel, Meurkens&Meurkens, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, A Perfect DayNorth Sea Jazz Festival and Netherlands Institute of Cultural Heritage. We operate within an extensive international network of innovative organizations and individuals.

We conceive, organize and communicate custom-made activities and services by combining artistic, economic and social forces. We help organizations and individuals to transform, accelerate, connect and create in a world in flux. Our activities adapt themselves to ever changing circumstances, moving from inner-city museums and concert halls to vacant buildings in the urban periphery and beyond, always manifesting themselves online, via ubiquitous digital networking technologies and social media.

We connect past and future, off- and online.

In addition to our daily practice, we initiate unsolicited research projects, such as Failed Architecture and Visible Cities. Furthermore, we are involved with the temporary cultural project space De Verdieping in Amsterdam, which we co-founded.

Our office is situated in the former office of the Netherlands Institute of Cultural Heritage, right in the heart of Amsterdam’s museum quarter overlooking Museumplein.
