Michiel van Iersel

Is an urbanist and cultural producer who studied Business and Cultural Studies at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and Metropolitan Studies at the Humboldt-Universität in Berlin. After an internship at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, he started his professional career at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam as an organizer of public and interdisciplinary programmes. In subsequent years he was responsible for a wide range of public events at a.o. the Venice Biennale and Art Rotterdam and worked as an advisor working with LAgroup for numerous cultural institutions. In 2008 he co-founded Non-fiction, an Amsterdam based office for cultural innovation. Besides he is the co-founder (with Juha van ‘t Zelfde) of De Verdieping, a temporary project space in an abandonded printing plant focusing on experimental culture. He talks and writes about the arts, heritage and architecture on a regular basis and (co-)hosted various conferences, including McMuseum (2002), Open Museum (2008), Curating the City (2009) and Urban Heritage Inc (2011). He is a member of several cultural (advisory) boards, amongst which the Amsterdam Foundation for the Arts (AFK), Stad-Forum, the Netherlands Media Arts Institute/Montevideo and the Advisory Board of the Nieuwe Kerk Foundation in Amsterdam. He is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences, and writes about arts, urbanism and heritage on a regular basis.

As part of our ongoing collaboration with the renowned Ives Ensemble, we are co-hosting a concert and film screening at church De Duif, Prinsengracht 754 in Amsterdam, on Sunday 26 February from 4 till 6 PM. Tickets are 5 Euro at the door, which opens at 3:30 PM.

26 January: A Perfect Day for 1000 Frames

Thursday the 26th of January, 1000 Drawings and A Perfect Day organize 1000 Frames, a collective animation drawing event for charity. Six artists have prepared the first layers of an animation that will be completed by the visitors. The animation and drawings will be shown at the A Perfect Day exhibition in the Westergasfabriek; and afterwards the drawings will be sold at the next 1000 Drawings event. With music, drinks, interviews, animation-screenings and more.

Non-fiction drinks: a weekly mom ‘n pop-up shop

It is almost 4 o’clock on Friday, which means in two hours our weekly pre-weekend bar opens. Last week we discovered the possibilities of outside projections, so let’s see what happens this week.

Anyone up for a drink, new Viral Radio music and a non-standard viewing of a torrented newspaper documentary is welcome.
